In the age-old tradition that has been handed to us by the highly realized vedic seers, any mantra is to be uttered only after the invocation of the mystic syllable “Om”. But, what is Om? How should it be uttered? Why should it be uttered? What is its relation to the world we live in? How is it connected to the concept of God? What are its practical uses in our daily life? How should it be uttered? Why should it be uttered? What is its relation to the world we live in? How is it connected to the concept of God? What are its practical uses in our daily life? Such questions are clearly answered by Mandukya Upanishad. It is a concise treatise on the grandeur of Om. It offers some practical meditative instructions, which when sincerely followed by us, allow us to enter into the experiential world of the God-ultimate. This Upanishad contains 12 aphorisms. The present work is an attempt to thoroughly explain the intricacies contained in these aphorisms. Every aphorism is provided with a word to word meaning, a direct import and a detailed explanation. The commentary is non-traditional in its style and it does not belong to any one school of thought. I have chosen to link many branches of wisdom such as that of the Veda, Tantra, Purana, Sri Vidya, Modern Sciences, etc. This is to bring out a systematic and harmonious outlook which aims to connect the missing dots in the spiritual journey of a truth seeker. I welcome the interested reader into this enigmatic journey.

The thought process of a Vēdic seer is often non-linear and hence creates hurdles for the present day truth seeking explorers. The goal of this book is to help such an explorer with the process of attuning to the way of the Vēda. To this end, we will be taking the most famous hymn of Puruṣa Sūktaṃ of the Rig Vēdic text and try to understand the perspective of the Vēdic principles by decoding the depths of this hymn. Only after understanding the basic bricks of the Vēda, can one enter into its specific contents. So, a solid introduction is given at the start, which helps the reader to attune their contemplative attitude to that of the Vēdic seers. The introductory part covers the topics such as - What is Vēda? What is the difference between a Vēda and a Vēdic text? How many Vēdās are there and why? What do we mean by Chandas? How did Vēdic hymns come into existence at all? What does it mean by the Vēda is eternal? etc. After such a serious ride into the deep canals of the Vēdic foundations, we enter into the topic of the hymn itself. It consists of 16 stanzas in total. A word to word meaning, an import and a thorough explanation is given for each of the hymns. Where necessary, some diagrams were also given to convey the key points of the stanzas to the reader.
The infinite cannot be caged into the words but the words can direct our perception towards the infinite. This simple logic had been exhaustively utilised by the ancient seers in developing the many wisdom paths. The way of the Sahasranāma is an epitome of this logic. Sahasranāma means thousand names. In its true sense, it is a set of thousand pointers to the inquiring self which points towards the mother Omnipresence. Thus, Lalitā Sahasranāma is a set of thousand pointers in the direction of self-realisation. This book series, Lalitā Priyadīpikā is a commentary on each of the aforementioned pointers. Priya means sweet and Dīpikā means that which sheds light, a lamp. Thus, the present book series is aimed at shedding light onto the thousand names of Lalitā. The present volume, Vol.1, covers an in depth exploration of the first 111 names of Lalitā Sahasranāma.
