Subrat SaurabhAuthor of Kuch Woh PalI was in a bookshop in New Delhi when I decided to capture and write about my future travels through India. Without a plan in mind, I set out on a pilgrimage to various temples. I would soon learn that, while haphazard, this was an ideal method of discovering the land, the streets, and the people of India. This was my way of trying to capture the spontaneous spirit of this land and gave me a deep commitment to the art of photography.
Much about life could be told in a story. I came to this conclusion, talking with an elderly woman who asked me if I believed that gods and chariots in Hindu writings actually existed. She referred to Ram and Sita in the Ramayan, or Krishna, Hanuman, and she brought up the great war in the Mahabharata. I hesitated but answered no. She looked at me with a sincerity that matched her age and said she didn't believe they really existed either. Reflecting for a moment, she asked: "But didn't they make great stories?" I would like to thank Rudolf Zwamborn for his vision and technical support, and my father for his wisdom and patience. This book is dedicated to Chip Armstrong. I am sorry for all the hurt and humiliation the world has shown you. Keep running. These stories are mostly told from someone else’s point of view.
