His long stay in the hill districts of Assam and his engagements in teaching at the undergraduate level was equally fascinating and educative for him as he was delightfully exposed to the wide field of tribal studies in the hills of the central Assam (Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao) These experiences allowed him to see how the tribal life moved and how the people coped up with the rapidly changing politics in the context of the constitutional provisions offered to them after Indian independence. By intuitive curiosity aroused in him, a special interest on the regional studies including studies on the tribal institutions, their modes of functioning and how they have reacted to the political cross currents of the time have been undertaken by the author. He has many publications in English and Bengali. Among his book publications, the notable are 1. Sociology of the Karbis 2. The Sylhet Referendum the story of a lost territory, 3. Political Economy of North East India and 4.Revisiting Dima Hasao in search of a Rhythm. His Bengali publications are many. Yet, he awaits many manuscripts at his disposal ready for publication. The time he spent in the teaching profession is well over forty years spanning from the sixties of the last century. After his retirement, he still engages himself actively in creating new books and revisiting the old ones.
