He rose in the ranks of the media from an ordinary sub editor to a special correspondent and ultimately to the highest position of Editor (Economics) because of his wealth of experience in reporting global events. He holds a graduate and post graduate degrees in English and Economics. He was Editor of Corporate Trends and PTI Economic News Services. He has travelled with Prime Minister Narasimha Rao on his goodwill visit to Central Asian countries. He also accompanied Vice President Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma to Europe and the Central and South America to cover the 400th anniversary of indentured labor in those countries. He accompanied Mrs. Indira Gandhi, then Prime Minister in the 80’s, on her election tour of Andhra Pradesh, which threw up the film star turned politician NTR as CM of the state.
Ashok also covered the historic first Earth Summit organized by the United Nations as the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCED) and the parallel NGO green summit attended by Hollywood celebrities at the exotic city of Rio De Janeiro in Brazil. It was the world’s biggest high security conference where 130 Prime Ministers and 140 Presidents from different countries participated to draft the agenda 21, which now forms the spine, for the global summits on Climate Change and the Tokyo protocol and Paris accord for restriction of carbon emissions by 2030 and 2050.
Ashok ran a series of 50 articles in Indian newspapers on the faulty Kimberley system of certification of diamonds and a campaign against Blood Diamonds, particularly on the slave and illegal trade of diamonds for arms and ammunition, especially in countries like Sierra Leone. He is now the Executive Editor of Corporate Tycoons, a high-end corporate magazine published from Pune in Western India, focusing on government policies and economic and financial affairs.
No Time to Hide COVID-19. A comprehensive summary of how India combats the scourge successfully under the incumbent Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi is his first book. He has three more books in the pipeline.
