Kalyani started her journey in the entertainment industry as a child actor in Tamil cinema and Malayalam movies. She has acted in over 300 advertisements, hosted many shows, and performed in television serials. Her work in the industry spanned from the age of seven till about twenty-six. Today, she is a proud mother to a smart, brave, and kind seven-year-old girl named Navya, who she hopes will carry forward the legacy of both her and her mother.
Kalyani is now a passionate mental health advocate working to create real change. She has filed a Public Interest Litigation in court to establish a proper 24-hour suicide helpline in Tamil Nadu, addressing the gap in current services that often lack professional support or operate only during limited hours. She has also approached the broadcasting minister to mandate the display of suicide helpline numbers during sensitive scenes on screen.
Her work includes conducting mental health awareness sessions in schools, colleges, and even for police departments and prison inmates. Every day, she continues to find new ways to raise awareness and build support for mental health and suicide prevention in India.
