Dr. A.J. Hemamalini is an accomplished Professor and Head of the Department of Clinical Nutrition at Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Research (DU), Chennai. With three decades of academic and clinical experience, she is progressively contributing to clinical nutrition education and practice. Her areas of specialization include critical care, pediatrics, oncology, surgical, geriatrics nutrition, and curriculum planning in academia. Dr. Hemamalini has successfully guided ten PhD scholars. She has authored over 47 publications in indexed journals and is a highly regarded speaker at national and regional conferences. Actively engaged in academic and public health initiatives, she serves on various boards and committees, including the District Level Advisory Committee on Food Safety (Thiruvallur District) and QIPST. Notably, she led a world record-setting event in 2023, showcasing 520 millet-based recipes to promote their clinical relevance. Dr. Hemamalini also contributes educational content in Tamil for media and public awareness campaigns.
Ms. Soma Basu is a Ph.D. Research Scholar in Department of Clinical Nutrition at Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Research (DU), Chennai, with a deep passion for advancing medical research, especially in the discovery of novel treatments for pediatric epilepsy. A certified Keto Dietician, Diabetic Educator, and Ayurveda Dietician, she has successfully treated over a hundred children with drug-resistant epilepsy through evidence-based dietary therapies, including the Classical Ketogenic Diet, Modified Atkins Diet, Low Glycemic Index Diet, and MCT-based Ketogenic Diet. With over 20 publications in indexed journals and two book chapters, Soma is at the forefront of clinical nutrition research. Her innovations include a published patent and copyright, and her work has been recognized with six Best Oral Paper Presentation Awards at national and international conferences, as well as the prestigious Indian Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition - ISPEN Young Talent Award and Best M.Sc. Dissertation Book Award. Deeply committed to raising public awareness, her mission is to bring the ketogenic diet into every household, dispelling myths and emphasizing its role as a powerful medical therapy—not a fad diet—for improving lives.
