Subrat SaurabhAuthor of Kuch Woh PalLeadership takes shape the moment purpose becomes clear. It finds its strength in values that stay steady, and it reaches people when it’s rooted in care. That’s the kind of leadership Col. Ajai Lal has lived through years in uniform, across boardrooms in dozens of countries, and now in quiet moments of mentoring those who want to lead with sincerity and strength. Rooted in military precision and shaped by real human experience, his approach centers on four cornerstones that define inspirational leadership: Passion that fuels purpose, People who give leadership meaning, Performance that turns intention into action, and Legacy that ensures leadership outlives the leader. These cornerstones are tested truths lived on the battlefield, proven in the boardroom, and now shared with honesty. With stories that move between tanks in war zones and strategy meetings across continents, this brings leadership back to what matters most. It invites reflection on how people respond under pressure, why care fuels performance, and what kind of legacy stays behind long after the applause fades. Whether you lead a squadron, a regiment, a team, a business, or your own life, the questions raised here stay with you. What do you truly stand for? Who are you when no one is watching? And how do you want to be remembered? Few voices speak of leadership with this kind of clarity and heart. Fewer still carry the experience to back it Col. Ajai Lal does both.

Colonel Ajai Lal is a soldier at heart, a leader by habit, and a coach by calling. His leadership journey began at just fifteen when he joined the National Defence Academy—driven by a deep respect for the uniform and the values it represents. He served with distinction for twenty-five years in the Indian Army, leading troops through combat missions in Sri Lanka, United Nations peacekeeping operations in Cambodia, the command of an armoured regiment, and high-risk assignments that demanded clarity, courage, and composure under fire.
A life-altering injury during an operational mission brought his time in uniform to an unexpected end. But instead of retirement, he chose reinvention. With no corporate background, no business degree, and limited exposure to boardrooms, he joined NIIT and went on to lead global business operations across forty countries. From classrooms to large-scale skilling initiatives, his work focused on expanding opportunity through purpose-driven leadership.
Today, Col Lal serves as a leadership coach and mentor to senior leaders across sectors. His mission is clear: to help people lead with clarity, care, and courage. Over the past decade, he has coached around ten thousand leaders and advised, board of directors, bringing his battlefield-honed principles into rooms where decisions shape lives.
Whether guiding teams in conflict zones or corporate boardrooms, his core message remains unchanged: leadership isn't about control. It's about how you show up when it matters most—and how others grow because of you.
