Dr. Nirmala Arulprakash hails from a historically significant family lineage. She is the great-granddaughter of Pandit lyothi Doss (1845-1914), a renowned Siddha doctor, writer, and social reformer, and Diwan Bahadur Rettaimalai Srinivasan (1860-1945), a pioneering leader in the fight for social justice and equality. Her grandfather, C.I. Pattabiraman, son of Pandit lyothi Doss, was a freedom fighter.
Dr. Nirmala Arulprakash earned her graduate, M.Phil., and Ph.D. degrees from Ethiraj College, Chennai. A multi-faceted personality, she is a homemaker, orator, accomplished writer in both English and Tamil, business entrepreneur, social activist, and politician. Her literary and social contributions have earned her numerous awards for excellence. From a young age, she actively participated in social service.
She is affiliated with several prestigious organizations, including the National Commission for Women, Mother Teresa University, and Indian Maritime University.
A prolific speaker and advocate for human rights, she has participated in numerous national and international conferences. In June 1993, she played a significant role at the World Conference on Human Rights in Vienna, Austria, where she served as Chairperson of the Committee on 'Untouchability, Caste System, and Bonded Labour' in the NGO Forum.
