Subrat SaurabhAuthor of Kuch Woh PalEveryday billions of people wake up on planet Earth, pick up their toothbrush, use a kettle, run through their smartphone, sit in a train/bus/car and head for work/college/school. They may use a desktop/laptop/tablet and return home at the end of the day. Some may watch some television, others just grab dinner and crash out, only to repeat this cycle over and over day after day. The routine gets so mechanical that only a tiny fraction ever wonder how the things they used during the day were conceived in the first place. Very few of these billions realize that all the little conveniences they took for granted during the day are a result of eons of deep cognitive processes and scores of trial and error methods. The masterminds behind these stunningly creative works have long remained as some far flung and unsung heroes, but it is they who have made our lives as smooth as butter and as soft as velvet. This book dives into the origin of all these little conveniences called “Inventions”, the stories and minds behind them. Starting with the Stone Age and spanning numerous civilizations and countries, the book looks into all the defining things that have been invented so far, how they work and what could be invented in the future. It also takes a peek into how “Inventions” have shaped the relationship between countries and civilizations, how they rose and fell across various civilizations and why some countries have been consistently better at inventing than other countries. The book aims to ignite the spark of curiosity among the readers, at the same time helping the reader appreciate the ingenuity of these unsung heroes who lie forgotten on some dusty and nondescript shelves across various libraries.

Jaideep Gupte has been a banker by profession for over two decades and resides in Mumbai. Though he was once associated with the financial world, his interests today vary from Astronomy, The Science Of How Things Work, Religion and History. An avid fan of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Mythology genres, he has recently embarked on his second endeavour- “Inventions”. From his high school days he was always intrigued by how things around him worked- from what powers your day to day gadgets to why the sky is blue and what makes the sun shine. Though science should have been his elective after school, he chose commerce instead. However his interest is this field never dimmed. Given that technology is becoming increasingly invasive in our life, he thought it apt to bring forth a chronological pick of the most colossal and towering inventions ever. He hopes that this book will set the ball rolling in instilling a spirit of enquiry in the mind of the reader and at the same time underscore the genius of the inventors.
