A Plethora of Dead Ends is a collection of short stories based in Trinidad and Tobago. The book draws its name from Samson Street which is a street with two dead ends. The main character on the street is Ethelbert G Sandiford who navigates through his dead-end life with a mixture of luck and ingenuity. His family also displays similar traits making for several comical scenarios.

Lance Dowrich
Born in San Fernando, Trinidad and Tobago, Lance Dowrich won the Caribbean prize in the 2016 Commonwealth Short Story Prize with his story ‘Ethelbert and the Free Cheese.’
‘A Plethora of Dead Ends’ is his first book but he has had stories published online in Granta, Adda, Twist and Twain and his blog at https://lancedowrichcom.wordpress.com/. His award-winning story from 2016 was handpicked as part of The ImagiNation Project, a collection of thirteen stories from eight countries and four continents published by Story Exchange Pty Ltd., in 2019, conceptualized as a smart social project to benefit worthy causes in South Africa.
Lance is part of a family whose creativity lies on a platform of books and reading. Lance’s parents are avid readers and his father bought books and magazines from many sources to fuel his family’s love of reading. Creative writing is a natural development for Lance and he tells stories that reflect the human spirit and eccentricities of human interaction from a West Indian perspective.
