Cognitive ability is widely regarded as a distinct human trait and serves as a central theme in discussions on evolutionary continuity. With notifications, algorithms, and curated content exerting increasing influence over modern life, concerns regarding Artificial Intelligence (AI) replacing humans in the workplace have become commonplace. The question arises: will Human Intelligence (HI) continue to surpass AI? The author asserts that it will, citing the organic nature of human cognition. Unlike machines, humans possess the capacity to interpret environmental stimuli and generate original ideas through authentic development processes—capabilities not inherent to AI systems. Thus, the author maintains that there will be no AI if there is no HI. A comprehensive understanding of this perspective requires consideration of the “nature versus nurture” debate and its complexities. The analyses and scenarios provided in this book illustrate that through deliberate cultivation and enhancement of cognitive abilities, individuals can actively shape their professional trajectories and realize their greatest potential.

Damodar Padhi is the former Chief Learning Officer of Tata Consultancy Services. He has more than 35 years of experience in Aerospace, Energy, and IT Consulting. A graduate of the Department of Aerospace Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, his passions include creating and nurturing high-performing, business-enabling teams and developing pipeline of leaders.
Damodar was recognized with the ‘Capture Their Hearts’ award by General Electric Company in 2004 for excellence in people leadership, the Best CLO of the year 2017 by the International CLO magazine, and the 2018 Stevie awards for Great Employer CLO of the year.
