Prime Minister Mrs. Indira Gandhi was assassinated at 9.10 am on 31st October 1984 in her Official Residence No.1 Safdarjung Road, New Delhi by her own trusted body-guards. Sub-Inspector Beant Singh made an about-turn, advanced few steps towards the approaching Prime Minister, took out his Service revolver from the dab and fired at her injecting 5 bullets into her body on the left side. Constable Satwant Singh standing near his Sentry-booth straightaway raised his sten-gun and pumped 25 bullets on her right side thus virtually rippling her body into two havles. While Beant Singh was killed later in a cross-firing, Satwant Singh, Balbir Singh, and Kehar Singh were arraigned as Accused 1, 2, and 3 respectively in the Trial. The Tuglaq Road Police Station registered the case and prosecuted the accused under FIR 241/1984. The Trial Court had a tough time to go through voluminous Documents and more than 100 witnesses and delivered its judgment from Tihar Jail on Wednesday 22nd, January 1984.
