Submitted to Contest #3 in response to the prompt: 'Your character wakes up in a different world. What do they do?'

One day Anne is surprised to find herself in a strange house in the icy cold of Siberia. She had no idea as to how she landed there or who had brought her there. She took the Orient Express traversing the length of Russia on the way encountering the hundreds of trees felled by the 1908 meteor strike in Russia stretching miles on and came to Vladivostok. Her mind was immediately drawn towards the Gulag Archipelago by Alexander Solzhenitsyn. Did a similar icy fate and possibly a icy death await her?. She froze. With a sense of purpose she resolved that that would not be the case with her and set about finding out how she had landed there and who had brought her there. Luckily, however, whoever had brought her there had left her mobile with her. Small mercies!. She made a call to her friend Raisa in St.Petersburg. As luck would have it the call didn't through. Pyrrhic victory! Now she was ravenously hungry. Luckily there was a refrigerator in the loft in her temporary place of residence in Vladivostok. Hungrily she gobbled two pieces of bread, butter and jam. Then she sat down near the dining table and hurriedly wrote a letter to her father in Paris and went to the nearby post office to drop the letter. However, the letter never reached her father and was lost in transit with Anne wondering what had happened. Anne took the express train to Istanbul and reached Istanbul. But, all this seemed a wild goose chase and now she took the world's longest train the Trans-Siberian railway and headed back to Vladivostok. In Vladivostok she met a man who introduced himself as Vladimir. Would Vladimir provide a clue to clueless Anne?. A ray of hope lit up the horizon. Vladimir had a girlfriend Kristi. And Vladimir and Kristi set out to help Anne. Now Kristi had a friend, Jacqueline. Vladimir, Kristi and Jacqueline resolved to get to the bottom of how Anne had landed in the bitter cold of Siberia with icy winds to boot. They booked a lightning call to Anne's father Pierre in Paris. But Pierre is clueless as to his daughter's mysterious history. Unknown to Anne Jacqueline had a history of her own all her own. She secretly loved Anne's boyfriend Hans who lived in London and driven by jealousy had plotted to kill Anne and was instrumental in Anne ending up in the icy tundra of Siberia. Through a mutual friend Anne got wind of this and fled to Moscow but Jacqueline chased her up to there. It was a typical Alfred Hitchcock thriller with a twist that Anne was a good natured, forgiving woman and soon forgave Jacqueline. And Jacqueline too seeing Anne's forgiving nature was struck by remorse and resolved to bury the hatchet and make amends. However, where would the devil go and so Jacqueline could not get over her jealousy and continued plotting to kill Anne. Now, secretly Hans too loved Jacqueline and the duo plotted to get rid of Anne. Now Anne's father Pierre ticked off Anne about the twist in the story and how Hans and Jacqueline were plotting to kill her so that they could carry on their romance with her out of the way. But, forgiving Anne resolved to get her lover back and soon struck by genuine remorse Hans and Jacqueline tried to make amends and gave up their insane plot to kill Anne and Hans too again fell in love with his original love Anne attracted towards her divine, forgiving nature and soon Hans and Jacqueline gave up their romance with their romance firmly becoming a thing of the past. Hans and Anne married and the newly wed couple soon welcomed a new member into the family, Siri. It was a happy family and the years rolled on and 3 years later Vladimir and Kristi too fathered three lovely children. Jacqueline too married a man of her choice and settled down and all of them became best friends with lots of camaraderie. Now the setting was 1960s France and Valery Giscard de Estaing was the Prime Minister of France and the Elysee Palace shone brightly in the evening twilight lit up as it was by colored bulbs and some distance away down the Champs De Elysee the Eiffel Tower lit up the night sky over picturesque Paris. Hans and his family joined Vladimir, his family and Jacqueline and her family and all of them sat down in Jacqueline's terrace under the night sky and chatted gazing up at the stars. Then, next morning all of them took the express train to Strasbourg and arrived in Strasbourg. They went sight seeing in Strasbourg rounding up all the places of tourist interest and exhausted but relaxed after a hard day of leisure all of them took the train back to Paris and reched Paris and lived a dream of a life. So this was how Anne's story ended.
