Submitted to Contest #3 in response to the prompt: 'Write a story about life after a "happily ever after"'

We know how we meet some really good friends in our lives. Friends protect us and make us happy when we get sad. In today's topic, I shreyas Nayan of class 5-E is going to tell us a story on the topic, "life after a happily ever after."
It was the day when I came to class 2nd. I was a simple kid, reserved and had no friends since I was new in this school. I used to do my classwork, eat my tiffin and return back to home when the school would get over.
I was fairly good with arts and crafts and I really enjoyed doing it. That is when I met my best friend, Yuvaan. He was also just like me. He too loved arts and crafts. We became good friends as we shared common interests. We used to play together, sit together in class, make car models and had various other common interests that bonded us more with time.
We have uncountable memories that we have spent together in the last few years of school. Today I am in class 5th and our friendship has still remained the same. We had hard times where sometimes we got into fights and disagreements but eventually we would become friends again.
My friend has now moved to kanpur because of his father's posting. Our daily school meetings have now shifted to occasional video calls. We talk on calls and recall those sweet memories.
I miss him, our friendship is one of the greatest feelings that I cherish the most and it will always be very close to my heart. I believe that one day we will meet again and we will get to play together like we use to.
Sometimes now in school I feel his absence. Though I have made other friends but my bonding with Yuvaan was something very special to both of us.
Our parents know about each other, his grandparents too knew about our friendship and that really bonded us all those years in school.
We would get scolding by teacher for talking a lot in the classroom. Sometimes the teacher may even make us sit on different seats to avoid us from talking. Even then during breaks we would go back to each other, talk and share our tiffin. He loved sandwiches so every morning I would ask my mom to put some extra sandwiches in my tiffin for yuvaan.
Now when I open my tiffin box during breaks, it always reminds me of him. It would remind me of how we used to eat together, laugh at jokes and discuss about car models, animations and or everything else.
We sure are still friends but not being able to meet him like daily in school hurt us both but we continue to get hold of the memories we made in school.
He is now in a different school in kanpur. Everytime he calls, he would tell me how he doesn't feel the same there, he has not been able to make new friends there as yet. I tell him with time, he will get accommodated and adjust with his new school. I have also moved on in school but over the course of these years, I have made new friends.
All of them are very supportive and playful. We eat together, play cricket during our physical education class and do school activities together.
I have learnt that every moment you spend contributes to a happy memory in future.
Therefore, I learnt a lot in this journey. From having one best friend, Yuvaan to making a lot more friends. I realised how everything at the end would become a happy memory. Surely I miss Yuvaan and I'm very grateful for our friendship. Great friendships always remain in your hearts and you always cherish them no matter how far you are from each other. It gives you hope that you can meet again one day. A happily ever after has taught me to move ahead in life, to be hopeful and to always believe in your true self.
It has been two months since Yuvaan has moved to a different city. I talk to him on calls and everything feels the same. We joke, laugh at silly things and promise each other to always remain in touch. Today I am grateful for our friendship and I pray that it continues to remain the same. A happily ever after has given me hopes and dreams. My story didn't have the best ending because my friend moved away to a different city, far from me. But the memories we shared, made it the best story that I could tell him and everyone. Happily ever after, to a friend who was with me when I had no friends. I am grateful for us, today, tomorrow and always.
