I Wish I Didn't Drink Water

By Samaksh Sardana

My brother, Trevor, and I worked in the match factory. A few days ago, the unthinkable happened, so I'm narrating this story from up.
This is the story of us:

We were heading towards the match factory when Trevor cried, "I see it. I see it."
"What do you see?" I asked sceptically.
"The Forbidden Well," he replied.
"So, what are you gonna do? You know it's against the rules of BlueHeather to go and drink water from there. Supposedly, there's a rumour that says the last person who drank water from the well was chased by Netholio, the architect of this well."
"By Netholio? Are you kiddin' me? I don't believe in that story, and you shouldn't either."
"I love my life! I ain't sacrificing it to just drink one glass of water from the Forbidden Well."
"Come on," groaned Trevor.
"Come on, move. We'll be late."
"Uh," he groaned, but eventually moved.

Just as we reached home, we sat on the couch, exploring the other job options. We had lost our jobs.
There was window cleaning at the king's palace, a job at the ink factory and pretty much no more.
We decided to try for the window cleaning.
"Trevor, get a bucket of mud. We're practising for the job. Till you get mud, I'll take out the window cleaning supplies from beneath the sink," I ordered.
I went to the kitchen and got a squeegee, an orange-looking liquid that probably expired a few years ago, and of course, a bucket.

"Trevor, what is taking you so long to get a bucket of mud?" I asked.
No reply.
"Trevor. Trevor," I said, stepping onto the front lawn, "Where are you?"
"No reply."

I ran around like mad. I covered each inch of the front lawn.
Maybe he went outside to get mud.
Again, I ran like mad searching for him. I could not find him anywhere.
"He must be somewhere," I thought.

After a rigorous search, I finally went back home to get a picture of him so that I could ask the residents if they had seen him anywhere. We didn't know all the residents.
"Did you see him?" I asked the first person I saw, pointing to his picture.
"No," came the sharp reply.

I ran hither and thither. No one had seen him. I was losing hope until this happened:

I asked another resident and he said that he had seen him go towards the road to the match factory. "Thank you for the information," I said, paying tribute to the person

"Did he go to the match factory?" I thought.

I hurriedly ran towards the match factory. Much said, I saw him near the Forbidden Well not the match factory.

"Where did you go?" I shouted at him. "Do you know how worried I was?"
"Sorry, I just wanted prove that if you drink from the Forbidden Well nothing will happen and the rumour is not true ... until now. Run!"

I started running but after sometime, he started laughing.

"What's wrong?" I asked.
"It was a joke. Nobody's following us."

We went to the well and he splashed me with the water from the well. He drank the water despite me telling not to drink. You may know how younger brothers can be.

He splashed water ate again but this time ... I swallowed it. Oh No!

"The devil will be after us not you," I cried.
"Relax, you worry a lot. There is nothing as the devil," he calmed.
"Who are they?" I asked, pointing to a group of people who were coming in our direction. They looked different. Maybe the attire ... or something else.
"How would I know? But this gives us a hint ... run to 'Green Willow', the nearest town from here.

"They look like the king's soldiers. Good thing we are running," I said when we started running.

Surprisingly, they didn't run after us but did something worse ... a quiver of arrows rained down on us. They were not good archers as we did not get hit even a single time.

"We got saved," commented Trevor.
"The devil did not come but the king did. Is he the devil?"
" The king will come if we break rules, stupid."

The soldiers had stopped following us after we took the route to the farm.

We took a room in a guest house and relaxed.

"Knock ... Knock ..." came the sound from the door at around 3 a.m.

"Who's there," groaned Trevor, as he opened the door. "Thud!" he dropped to the ground.

"What happened," I asked.

I woke up in a cellar with Trevor. "Where are we," I asked.
"Prison."

In the afternoon we had to go visit the king.

"Why did we drink the water from the well?" asked Trevor, depressed.
"I told you not to drink."
"You were right."

Finally the time came to go the king.

The meet was a worse one. We had to be executed tomorrow morning.

After reaching in the cell I gave my goodbyes to my sister, Cassie.
