Submitted to Contest #5 in response to the prompt: 'A simple “yes” leads to something you never saw coming'

“A heart exploding to confess the beats going out of rhythm,
Faced an overtone that broke her pitch slowly
Until the silence held her heart”

Heart going crazy over a text, she knew it's not same anymore. Night long text ruining her beauty sleep felt exciting, her feelings got intense day by day, his thoughts started to fill up all her day, until she speaks the heart to him, but she can’t bring the courage to speak her heart as his heart belonged somewhere else. His days went in someone else’s thoughts.
All he talked about was her but the feelings turmoiled the heart that waited all day for a heart-to-heart talk.
Her heart waves risking turning into tsunami, she held it shut for the sake of the bond they shared “friendship”.

Final exam started as the holidays got to an end. She met him every day, close to her skin her heart screamed in panic. Whenever her eyes got caught admiring his hazel lit eyes her heart dropped a beat. She refused to hear her heart over a year, as accepting this could lead to anything and everything she feared.

Spring started new and flowers budding to bloom. They were on their way back home, when he shared how his heart feels to move on from the heart that refused his for 5 long years.
Those words of thoughts unleashed a part of her that wanted to be known by him, she had no control over her heart anymore, as she accepted the part of her, she refused to listen. She accepted her heart blooming in love for him — pure and unspoken.
The beats her heart kept silent wanted to be heard by the world, — her world.

She finally decided to confess her overwhelming heart. She just wanted him to know the beats that beats for him were not normal.
She found a perfect day, perfect time and perfect weather to confess her heart.
As she said every word that came from her heart, she had no expectations about getting accepted she just wanted to be heard nothing else.
But she never knew that the day would get too perfect as he said a word “yes” just three letters accepting a loud heart exploding out of love.
The day she finally got freed by the weight of unheard beats her heart just weighed even more as the word “yes” came with the meaning of ready to accept the heart hidden from the world. That day she was happy as well as overwhelmed by fear of what ifs. He held her hands releasing off the fears and worries that latched onto her mind.
She fell over the sweet words of love —
Her heart doubted every word but couldn't  stop smiling over over those beautiful words that fell out of his playful voice. His words kept her up all night as she felt less lonely at the night where no one heard her. He stayed up all night with her listening to the beautiful heart.
Her fears turned into acceptance, her worries left as he held her heart with the words so sweet, that she just melted into.

Weeks started going smooth, conversed words that left reassurance of love that made the heart feel loved.

“Listening to the same song on loop makes ear numb to catch the beauty of the beats”

Honey days turned into sweet week ignoring the bitterness that follows the sweetness. His sweet words turned to bitter little by little his reassurance sounded so uncertain, his love started to feel lonely that her heart accepted the bitterness that the sweet words left.
Her heart out of love or to be loved she ignored the changes and gave him love he couldn’t handle.
Her love for him was strong enough to be broken. So, she loved him with knowing he would leave her. But her heart refused to let go the drifting hands of his. She held it where he felt suffocated by the love that turned her night even darker, even the peaceful sleep left her.
She has the heart she ever wanted but still alone.
The heart that fell for those words so beautifully sharpened that she couldn’t notice the wound it left bled dried.
She aided her heart with the limerence of his that once loved the love she had.
She held her heart strong with the sweet days turning to bittersweet weeks to the sour months leaving her heart numb.

Her love was for him was overwhelming, so he distanced himself to a place safe for him, where her heart cried in the dark and her words got lost and unheard again.
But he still held her hand for the words he held responsible for, not knowing how to love a heart so pure and sweet.
He couldn’t turn back his words, so he held the heart too much for him to bear. Her love chained him down leaving him feel guilty. His soft sweet words turned into silence, that she couldn’t bear to hear. The eyes she fell for, lost its freedom to shine. His smile could no more curve up as the responsibility he held for the word “yes” buried him in the guilt.
A simple word “yes” holds so many reasons to be used carefully.
Accepting a heart that felt easy for him came with the unexpected amount of love.

She decided to leave his hands free for the sake of the eyes that lights up when he feels light and for the heart that never meant to be chained down by love.

She let him free from the love so sweet that turned bittersweet at the end.
He might don’t know how the heart felt when she finally let him go. He left her with the nights cold and sleepless.
Still her heart craved for the sweet words, but she dared not to get a taste of it as the bitterness still lingered in her heart.

“The flowers that bloomed in spring finally dried dead by the end of it”

Hey Akhila! This was hauntingly poetic and emotionally resonant — you captured the sweetness and ache of one-sided love with such raw beauty. The rhythm of your prose, especially lines like “Her love was strong enough to be broken” and “still her heart craved for the sweet words,” stayed with me long after reading. The emotional evolution from tender hope to bittersweet release was portrayed with honesty and elegance. I gave it a full 50 points! If you get time, I’d love for you to check out my story, “Overheard at the Edge of Goodbye,” and share your thoughts too: https://notionpress.com/write_contest/details/6116/overheard-at-the-edge-of-goodbye
