Submitted to Contest #5 in response to the prompt: 'You send a message to the wrong person. What happens next?'

A group was created for a school project so that everyone could talk to each other and understand the project easily. That’s why this student group was formed.

Even within the group, everyone was given separate projects. I had no idea that this project would become the beginning of my love story. Honestly, I never feel like participating in such projects and all, but it was compulsory, so I had to do it and thank God I did!

In my group, the project head told me to personally message all the students and send them the group link.

And I did. I sent the link to all the school students.

Somehow, one girl from our class had given her sister’s phone number instead of her own because she didn’t have a phone. I sent the link to everyone, and she saw it, but didn’t join the group.

Since even one student missing from the group could mean they wouldn’t get the necessary information, I waited for a day and then decided to call her to ask why she hadn’t joined even after seeing the link.

Me: Hello
She: Who is this?

Hearing her voice felt like something pierced through me. I had heard many girls' voices before, but hers felt magical. I couldn’t even speak for a moment.

She: Hello? Who is this? Say something why did you call?

Me: (gathering myself) Hello, you haven’t joined the school project group why not?

She: Which school? What project? Wrong number.

Me: Excuse me, this is not a wrong number it’s the correct one.

She: But I’m not in school, I’m in college.

Me: Then what are you doing in our class contact list?

She: Oh okay, wait that must be my little sister. That’s not me who’s in school. But don’t worry, I’ll tell her to join. Thanks.

Me: Thanks.
Me: What’s your name?

She: Why do you care?

Me: I don’t know, but I really feel like knowing you.

She: Excuse me, are you stupid or what? What kind of misbehavior is this? I mean, you school kids have started using projects as an excuse to flirt with girls?

Me: Excuse me, when did I flirt with you?

She: Didn’t I tell you that my little sister will join the group? Then why do you want my details?

Me: For the first time, I’ve heard such a sweet voice. And for the first time, I feel curious to know who this stranger is. And by the way, I’m not a kid — I’m in 12th standard. There's just a one-year age gap between us.

She: Whatever the gap is, so what? And why are you flirting with me?

Me: Flirting? That was a compliment, not flirting.

She: Bye. Don’t try this drama again with a phone call.

Me: I like you.

She: Are you crazy? You talked for just 2 minutes and you already like me? How is that even possible?

Me: I don’t know either. This is the first time it’s happening to me.

She: It’s not like I’ve done this ten times either.

Me: Done what? 🌚

She: Are you trying to be naughty?

Me: Never. With you, everything just feels pure. No other thoughts are even entering my mind.

She: Okay, fine.

I don’t know how, but we kept talking, and an hour just flew by without us realizing it.

She hung up the call.

I felt as if, for the first time, I could truly feel my heartbeat. My heart had been beating before too, but this was the first time I actually felt it beating… You know how they say, “It’s your first love, your very first time”something like that was happening to me.

I wished that phone call would never end, that she would keep speaking forever, and I could spend my entire life just listening to her.

Her attitude, her voice, the way she spoke I had never felt anything like this before. It felt as if background music had started playing, as if there was a fragrance in the air, everything around me turned pink it was like the whole world had changed its color, even the clouds looked rosy.

I was ready to do anything to have her in my life after all, this was my first love.

I was still upset, wondering why she ended the call and just then, my phone rang again. It was her.

I felt like I was flying in the air. That feeling… I can’t describe it. But before I could pick up, the ringtone stopped. I missed the call.

I had never felt such happiness in my life before truly, for the first time.

I started wondering, “God, if love feels this beautiful, then why did you keep me away from this feeling for 18 years? Why? Why? Why? Please, God… give me an answer.”

Then I calmed down a bit, tried to control my excitement, and called her back.

She: Why isn’t the group link opening?

Me: I’ll check and send a new one.

She: Sakshi.

Me: What?

She: The name of your first love.

I went completely silent, lost in thought.

She: Stupid!

Me: Ohh… your name is Sakshi?

She: Of course it is!
She: Now snap out of it!

Me: That’s not possible anymore.

And now, we’ve become each other’s first love.

Hey Shishishinchan! This was such a sweet and cinematic love story—full of youthful charm, humor, and that beautiful rush of first love. The voice call turning into a heartfelt connection felt so natural and endearing, and Sakshi’s sass made it even more enjoyable. I gave it a full 50 points! If you get time, I’d love for you to check out my story, “Overheard at the Edge of Goodbye,” and share your thoughts too: https://notionpress.com/write_contest/details/6116/overheard-at-the-edge-of-goodbye
