It is heartening that his 'Peep into quantum wonderland' is being released by the IAPT. I am sure that this educational and entertaining book will be very well received by both teachers and students of physics.’

Prof. P. C. Deshmukh (Ex- IIT-M, IIT-T)

Atomic physicist, leading author

Quantum is a buzz word especially in view of the IYQ2025. Everyone is curious about what it is, how it suddenly took the center stage. ‘Quantum Wonderland’ gives an excellent account of the first three decades of the 20th century that shook physicists, and the quantum climax in 1926. A simple but relevant exploration of the secrets of atomic molecular microworld leading to semiconductors, lasers and many more suits the non-experts too. There are anecdotes and also history with twists and turns. The book gives an interesting account of quantum mechanics and its applications that make an engaging reading for students, teachers and other enthusiasts.

K.N. Joshipura

Prof. K. N. Joshipura is one of those who are retired but untired in their academic endeavours. In his active career of about four decades he spent the first few years teaching physics to senior secondary and UG students in Anand (Gujarat). While the teacher in him ignited the young minds, the student in him was inspired to pursue research and he obtained his Ph.D. from M. S. University, Vadodara. Soon thereafter he joined the Department of Physics Sardar Patel University in Vallabh Vidyanagar (Gujarat), where he taught PG students and also guided Ph. D. scholars. His field of research is atomic-molecular physics, wherein his focus has been on electron scattering theory. His students are very active in this research field now. Prof. Joshipura has visited USA, UK, Germany, Italy, Austria and Spain for participating in conferences etc. He visited University College London UK under a joint travel award from Royal Society of London and INSA (India). His research monograph, ‘Atomic-molecular ionization by electron scattering’ with Prof. Nigel J. Mason (University of Kent UK) as coauthor, was published by the Cambridge University Press in 2019. He is a fellow of Gujarat Science Academy under which he   wrote the Gujarati translation of a popular book on meteorites authored by Prof. Narendra Bhandari (scientist, formerly at PRL Ahmedabad).

He says, in his characteristic style, that a teacher like him is a 3-D creature, and the three dimensions of a teacher’s work-space are teaching, research and outreach. He is passionately involved in science outreach since long and has contributed actively in the district Community Science Centre at Vallabh Vidyanagar, working for students, teachers and common people for over 20 years.
