The degradation of environment globally has emerged as a major challenge to the existence of human being in this world. More recently the effects of environmental degradation are becoming more and more obvious in the form of a range of pollutant affecting the planet. Environmental destruction activities such as chemical, human activities and the release of chlorofluorocarbons to the atmosphere trigger the depletion of ozone layer. Emission of Greenhouse gases to the atmosphere causes global warming and Global warming leads to soil erosion, flooding, drought and rise in sea water level. The burning issue for the human being as a whole is of sustainable development in the midst of degradation of environment. Extreme use of natural resources as well as severe pollution caused by unplanned activities tends to create environmental and social distress. Sustainable development implies the use of ecological system in a manner that satisfies current need without compromising the need or options of future generations. The aim of sustainable development should be to maximize human well being or quality of life without jeopardizing the life-support environment. Dr. Rabindra Bordoloi

DR. RABINDRA BORDOLOI (b.1979) a post-graduate in History from Gauhati University, hails from Kaki, Hojai in the state of Assam. He did his Ph.D from Assam University in 2018. He has been working on local history, folk culture and ethnic history of North East India. So far, he has published several thought provoking research Papers in reputed research journals and books. He has taken part and organized several national and international seminars. His published books are Politics and Administration of the Tiwas (2021), Exploring Local History and Folk Culture of North East India (2021), Ethnic Life of North East India (2021), Subhas Chandra Bose and North East India (2022), Ethnic Diversity in North East India (2022) and Socio-Cultural and Political History of Colonial Assam (2024). He has the credit in editing The Watchword, a Peer Reviewed Annual Journal of Assam College Teachers’ Association (2019). His area of interest is on ethnic and local history, culture and autonomy movement in North East India. Currently, he is serving as an Assistant Professor in the Department of History at Nanda Nath Saikia College, Titabar (Assam).
