Pam Mandy (her pen name) is an anthropologist who currently lives in California. She has a PhD in cultural anthropology from a major research university in the United States. A native of Chennai, she is deeply interested in social issues, particularly relating to women. She is happily married and has two sons. Shakti: The Story of a Homeless Woman in India is based on research conducted for her doctoral dissertation on homeless women in Chennai. Part of the proceedings from this book will go towards education of the children of homeless women in India.
