Dr. Ajay Sharma

Dr. Ajay Sharma is former Senior Deputy Chief medical Officer, NHPC LTD, a Govt of India navratna PSU, physician, yogi, astrologer, and poet with over four decades of immersion in Vedic literature, medicine, yoga, and Jyotisha. He has practised medicine in Dehradun, Uttarakhand, for most of his professional life, bringing to his clinical work an integrated understanding of Ayurvedic and modern biomedical traditions.Dr. Sharma began his study of Sanskrit and Vedic literature in his early twenties, alongside his medical training, under the guidance of several traditional scholars and yogic teachers in the Himalayan region. He has studied the primary texts of the Rigveda, the Upanishads, the great epics and Puranas, the Kamasutra, the Gita Govinda, the Natyashastra, and the principal philosophical and Tantric texts of the Shaiva and Vaishnava traditions. His study of Jyotisha spans four decades of active practice as a consultant astrologer.As a yogi, Dr. Sharma has practised in the Hatha Yoga and Raja Yoga traditions for more than forty years, studying with teachers in the Rishikesh and Dehradun ashram communities. His yogic practice has informed both his medical work-particularly in the areas of stress, psychosomatic illness, and the relationship between mental and physical health-and his scholarly engagement with the texts of the Tantric and Yogic traditions.Dr. Sharma has written poetry in Hindi and Sanskrit throughout his adult life. His verses, which draw on the Vaishnava devotional tradition and on the imagery of the Himalayan landscape.
