Poona, the colonial period name of the city, the period during which the city became cosmopolitan and people as well as goods from different corners of the world began appearing in the city. Pune, the name during the Peshwai and after the independence, used to identify the city. This is more than the name of the city also encompasses the culture and vibe of the city.
