Quarantine Day 47
You know that feeling when you're standing on the roof of a tall building, and the wind envelopes you in a tight hug and you feel giddy with head rush?
Yeah, I felt like that everytime I was in the terrace of my apartment. I would climb to the highest point of my terrace and would spread my arms open, like an albatross warming up before it glides away into bliss. I would make a cup of chai with three and a half spoons of sugar and pour that soul-soothing liquid into a rusty orange ceramic mug, that would contrast the mild evening hue. I would then climb four flights of stairs, the only exercise I get in a day, with my very own hot cup of diabetes, and an old library book, that I chose not to return, to my little village of quietude. I would then sit on the high citadel of the terrace, earphones in, but no music, sipping on the now cold chai, sniffing the middle page of the moist smelling novel, listen to the sound of silence, slipping into a slow trance.
I'd sometimes feel like a vulture from that height, squinting at life beneath me. I think vultures are highly misunderstood birds. The world thinks that they wait to prey on the weak but if you look closely, they view the world in slow motion, betting on the life forms, urging them not to give up, with just their mere presence. They dont prey on anything until they are absolutely sure that the soul has given up. One could compare them to reapers. And I, like vultures, watched the world like a sitcom, trying to grasp the very existence of each living being, while the wind embraced me like a veil between my reality and a world of trance.
It has been 47 days since I had been caged like a little finch, instead of soaring through the clouds like a falcon and I began craving that high of drinking from the pool of golden sunsent. Today I'm like a puppy on caffeine, ready to taste the wind like the albatross as that rusty black door, that stood between me and my terrace, has been finally unlocked!
