This book is the recovered memoir of Lalit Chandra Raha, a Bengali freedom fighter, detailing his life of struggle and sacrifice against the British Raj. The final book is presented as a collaboration across three generations, compiled by his grandson resulting in a narrative "woven from fact, memory, and imagination".
The memoir chronicles Shri Lalit Chandra Raha's early life story as told by him and his fervent involvement in India's independence movement, specifically joining the revolutionary Jugantor dal in pre-independence Bengal. His revolutionary actions included participating in the Khilafat and Swadeshi movements, planning and executing a robbery to fund the cause, and partaking in activities surrounding the attempted assassination of Commissioner Castle.
His activism led to his arrest and subsequent five-year sentence under the Arms Act. He was eventually transferred to the remote Cellular Jail in Port Blair, Andaman Islands. During this incarceration, he endured severe hardship, including participating in a historic 34-day hunger strike, while undergoing an intellectual transformation by studying the works of Karl Marx, Lenin, and Charles Darwin. The narrative concludes with his release and his subsequent struggles and disillusionment with the bureaucracy of newly independent, post-Partition India, despite his later recognition as a freedom fighter with the "Tamra Patra" in 1972.

This book originated from a recovered memoir of the late Shri Lalit Chandra Raha, and was penned by his grandson Kaushik Raha.
Kaushik is a first-time author and this is his first foray into the world of literature. Although, trained as a scientist he has authored numerous scientific publications. By profession he is a data science and Al leader and his career has spanned the pharmaceutical and healthcare sectors. Kaushik was born in India, and grew up in different locations as his father was serving in the Indian armed forces. He holds bachelors and masters degrees in Biophysics and Biotechnology from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi. He earned his PhD from the Pennsylvania State University, in the United States.
He currently resides in the United States of America, with his wife and daughter, in the suburbs of Philadelphia.
