With a loaded Sten gun, I nudged one of the sleeping bags hard. The man inside moved and mumbled something. Simultaneously, my other companions also poked their guns hard against the other four men sleeping. Soon, all of them were awake and began struggling to wriggle out of their sleeping bags.
“Don’t move, we are the Indian Army,” I said with a forced whisper. During the mission, we maintained complete silence to capture our targets.
There are a few more similarly exciting moments of my army life that are included in this book. Though army personnel serve the country to the peril of their lives, my short stint in the army provided me with an enriching experience and thrilling adventure of a lifetime.

Shekhar Gupta
A postgraduate in Business Administration and Economics, Shekhar Gupta, 68, is a Short Service Commissioned ex-Army Captain, who worked in the civil services for over 23 years after leaving the army, before taking up a corporate career until he retired in 2019. Shekhar has written many articles in several magazines and newspapers during his professional career. Currently, he is working as a freelance consultant. “…To the Peril of My Life” is the first book to be published by him. He plans to come out with similar works on his tenure in the civil services and his pursuits in the corporate sector. He has a daughter, Kanika, and a son, Pranay, both settled in life. Shekhar resides in Shimla/Chandigarh with his wife, Shashi.
