Unlearning Survival A memoir + mental health manual for young brown adults learning to rest, heal, and belong

Author Name: Sureen Hasan | Format: Paperback | Genre : Self-Help | Other Details

We learn survival before we learn softness.

In families that carry silence like tradition, breaking down feels like betrayal. But this book is not about breaking — it’s about returning. To breath. To body. To self.

In Unlearning Survival, Sureen Hasan weaves memoir with gentle mental-health wisdom, tracing the quiet unraveling of a young woman who held everything together until she couldn’t. Through stories of migration, identity, grief, friendships, family, and healing, she invites readers into a tender reclamation of self.

Part memoir, part mental-health guide, this book is for anyone who has ever been tired in ways they cannot name — and is learning to live, not just survive.

Sureen Hasan

Sureen Hasan is a health promotion professional with a background in Psychology and International Studies (BA) and a Master of Public Health (MPH). Born in India and based in Sydney, she is passionate about creating spaces where young people feel a little less alone and a lot more deserving of rest.

Her dream is simple: a life where healing isn’t rushed, joy is intentional, and love feels like home.

Beyond work, she finds comfort in small rituals: her growing forest of indoor plants, long nature walks, and the grounding pleasure of cooking, baking, and endlessly brewing chai and coffee. She also has a rotating list of all-consuming hobbies that bring unexpected sparks of joy to her weeks.

This is her first book — though she’s been telling stories in her head for as long as she can remember.
